This year the Republic of Estonia celebrates its 100 years of independence. One of the amazing side events is the opening of Valga City Centre Public Playground, where you can find Lars Laj’s play equipment.
The Grand Celebration Week in Estonia lasts from August 17 to 25, 2018. To make this important event even more special, the Estonia 100 programme has been launched. It includes an architecture project to reconstruct public space areas in Estonian major towns and city centres. The revitalised central square in Valga has its opening on August 22 during the Tähed Valga festival. One of the undeniable attractions of the rebuilt city central is a new playground with Lars Laj’s outdoor play equipment.
What amazes at the first glance is the selection of colours. The playground resembles a vibrant modern painting. Marine blue and dark blue refer to the Estonian flag colours while vivid orange and yellow bring a positive energy. A geometric combination of the blue circles of seats, the dark squares of trampolines and the multicoloured hillocs evokes a picture of a topographic map.
The most important elements of each playground are various pieces of stimulating outdoor play equipment for children. On the Valga playground kids have numerous options to play, have fun and develop their social and motor capabilities.

Children can practice their balancing skills on the balancing trails and joyfully swing on a safe wooden basket seat swing. They also have four small trampolines to jump and bounce, and two hillocks to climb and run.
While younger kids can have fun running, bouncing and swinging on the playground, others can spend their time playing tennis.
